Club Information

We are the Tejas RC Association ( pronounced, Tay Haas), is located in the beautiful Lower Rio Grande Valley on the very southern tip of Texas, next door to Romantic Old Mexico. The club name, Tejas, is an old Indian word meaning "Friendship". Our club was founded in the early 1980's by a small group of friends and has grown steadily. Our main focus is in remote control model aviation and giant scale aircraft. We are chartered by the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) and the International Model Aircraft Association (IMAA). Our membership consists of male and female pilots from throughout the Valley region. Half of our growing membership are Winter Texans that vacation here to escape the cold winters of the northern USA. The weather is balmy and subtropical which is a strong attraction and affords us many pleasant year round flying opportunities. Our main model interests are with World War II era giant scale, military warbirds and a growing fascination with Korean, Vietnam, & Desert Storm era turbine powered model aircraft. The Tejas club has a very active RC training group and offers free flying & building instruction to new & prospective members. The club is also an active consultant and cosponsor for the Aeronautical Engineering lab flying team at nearby University of Texas Pan American, located in Edinburg. The club is proactive and makes several aero information presentations each year for local libraries, public schools and various scouting groups in the Valley area.

The Tejas RC Association hosts two great Air Shows every year; an extremely popular Spring Air Show in February, enjoyed by thousands of spectators and an exciting Fall Warbird Shootout in October that has become very popular with Texas & Louisiana warbird enthusiasts. A big mall show is held each year prior to the February Air Show, in order to inform the public about RC model aviation and to entice new membership into our exciting sport. Tejas RC also sponsors several family oriented picnics during the year and hosts a fun intraclub fun fly competition at each picnic.

Club dues are fifty dollars per year and regular meetings are scheduled the first Monday of every month. Many members and their family or guests arrive about 6PM to dine before the regular 7PM meeting. Meeting locations vary and are posted on the home page of this web site.
